As a bass player your are often relegated to the role of accompanist. You are part of a rhythm section being the glue between the percussion instruments and the chord and melody instruments. That’s not a bad place to be, but sometimes it can be liberating to break free from the chains of the ensemble and let the bass guitar get the spotlight as a solo instrument. Like all instruments the bass has both advantages and limitations in this role and the solo pieces in this book aim to take both of those aspects into account. Not least they are also fun to play.
